This is a short list of activities that will increase the reliability of your Database Servers:
- Back Up all file systems on Removable Media and store the tapes in a Fire Safe,
- Check the Server logs,
- For Sybase/MS-SQL Server: check database & transaction log free space, check errorlog size,
- For Oracle: check tablespace free space; table & index free space and extent growth, redo log activity, chained row analysis, next extent’ free space deficit,
- Remove/Disable User Account of staff who have left within 24 hours,
- Carry out integrity checks, preferably on a daily basis size permitting,
- Optimize statistics, preferably on a daily basis size permitting,
- Check for table/indexes that needs to be defragmented, ...
